Defending Yourself Against Identity Theft

One of the ways people fall victim to identity theft is over the phone or through text message. If someone calls you saying they are from First Financial Credit Union, it is very important to make sure they are actually a representative of the credit union before you continue speaking with them.

Here are a few key identifiers to know if someone from First Financial Credit Union is calling, or if it is an imposter trying to commit fraud:

  • If we call you, we would never ask for your routing or account numbers. We already know your FFCU routing and account numbers.
  • If someone calls saying you’ve been pre-approved for a loan:
In order to get pre-approved for a loan with us, you would first have to go through our full application process. This includes filling out an application, pulling a credit report and speaking with one of our Loan Officers ahead of time. If you have not previously done any of these things, the caller may not be legitimate.
  • Our office’s area codes are (773) and (847). If someone calls you from another area code they may not be affiliated with us. The best way to verify the caller’s identity is to call into our Contact Center at 773-565-2000 and verify the employee’s name.
  • If someone calls asking you to pay a loan application fee or processing fee with a credit card, it is not FFCU. We do not accept fee payments through credit cards.
